Cognitive behavioural therapy session

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Working with the link between thought, emotion and behaviour

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an evidence-based method that helps you understand and change the interaction between your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Many of the difficulties we meet in daily life are maintained less by events themselves than by the way we interpret them. CBT makes those interpretations visible and workable.

\n

In the course of the work you learn to identify the beliefs that constrain you and to make them more realistic and more functional. The awareness gained in session is carried into daily life through structured practice between sessions, which is where much of the change happens.

\n

CBT has a strong evidence base across a wide range of presentations, anxiety and depression foremost among them, and its structured format means progress can be tracked.

The Three Moves

Notice the thought

Identify the patterns of thinking that keep the difficulty in place.

\n

Shift the emotion

Bring emotional responses into a healthier and more functional range.

\n

Strengthen the behaviour

Build positive habits that the new thinking supports.
